Unplanned 'Pop-Up Wedding' Disrupts Indianapolis Coffee Shop
Last Sunday, the near west side of Indianapolis witnessed an unusual event at a local coffee shop. A couple took over Mansion Society for a 'pop-up wedding' on New Year's Eve without obtaining permission from the business. The coffee shop had originally planned to open as usual on Dec. 31, but their plans were thwarted by a full bridal and groomsmen party, along with a wedding officiant and other attendees. Personal belongings were scattered throughout the establishment, and the coffee shop's entrance was blocked, preventing regular customers from entering. The wedding party even went as far as obstructing the parking lot by valet parking their cars along the entrance. Despite being near another wedding venue, the coffee shop staff initially assumed the party was just stopping in for a coffee before moving on. However, the wedding party proceeded to use the coffee shop as their venue, rearranging furniture, conducting a photoshoot, and holding a ceremony. After the event, the coffee shop was left in disarray, forcing the staff to clean up the mess. The wedding party had not sought permission to be on the property from any of the surrounding businesses or buildings. The bride later offered a $200 donation, which was declined by the coffee shop. Instead, they requested $500, their normal weekend rate for private events and rentals. An invoice was sent to the couple, but it remains uncertain whether they have paid it. A fundraiser has been launched to support Mansion Society and offset the costs and business loss incurred.
