Michigan GOP Chair Ousted Amidst Controversy
Kristina Karamo, who was endorsed by Trump in her unsuccessful run for Michigan secretary of state in 2022, was removed as the chair of the Michigan Republican Party in a controversial vote. The special Republican Party Committee meeting, where the vote took place, was labeled as 'not official' by Karamo. District 2 State Committeewoman Bree Moeggenberg announced that over 88 percent of members present at the meeting voted to remove Karamo from her position. The former chairwoman denounced the vote, stating that it was not recognized as official. However, Moeggenberg defended the decision, claiming that Karamo's leadership lacked the effectiveness needed to build a coalition of all Republicans to grow the voter base and win. Additionally, there were allegations of fraudulent behavior and illegitimacy from both sides regarding the vote. The controversy has led to deepening division and infighting within the Michigan GOP.
