Government of Canada Issues Special Weather Statement for Incoming Winter Weather
An impending winter weather event has prompted a special weather statement from the Government of Canada's national weather agency. Beginning on Monday morning, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) predicts substantial snowfall inland on the central and south coasts, as well as at sea level along certain areas of the South Coast and eastern Vancouver Island. However, ECCC forecasts a transition from snow to heavy rain by Monday afternoon in regions such as Metro Vancouver, which are situated closer to sea level. ECCC further cautions about the likelihood of very strong winds in western and southern Vancouver Island on Monday and Tuesday. The heaviest rainfall is expected to impact West Vancouver Island on Monday evening, with higher elevations experiencing intensifying snowfall during the same period. The agency also anticipates strong winds reaching the inner south coast by Tuesday as the weather system approaches the region, potentially necessitating weather warnings as it approaches landfall.
