NVIDIA Launches GeForce RTX 4090 D for Chinese Market
NVIDIA has finally launched a 'new' GPU made specifically for the Chinese PC gamer market. The GPU, known as the GeForce RTX 4090 D, became available for purchase on Thursday. This modified version of the company's high-end GeForce RTX 4090 graphics chip is designed to comply with the current US export rules regarding the sales of US computer and tech parts to China.
The GeForce RTX 4090 D features 14,592 CUDA cores, which is slightly fewer than the standard 4090 GPU's 16,384 cores. Additionally, it uses 425W of power, compared to the regular 4090's 450W. According to an NVIDIA spokesperson, these modifications result in the 4090 D GPU offering 5 percent less performance for PC gamers in China compared to the standard 4090 chip.
NVIDIA is selling the GPU in China for 12,999 yuan, approximately $1,842 in US dollars. The company made the extra effort to create China-only versions of its GPU due to the huge market for its products in that country. However, delays in launching new GPUs in China have been caused by the export rules set up by the Biden Administration. These delays have allowed rival companies like Huawei to sell their own AI-based GPUs to Chinese companies.
It remains to be seen if the US export rules could greatly curb NVIDIA's market in China.
